Plan and price your book inside ChatGPT with the Harmony Publishing Assistant

Quick answer: the Harmony Publishing Assistant is a free app for ChatGPT (and Claude) that brings our self-publishing packages, prices and book printing calculator into your chat. Ask it to show the packages, recommend one for your book, or estimate a print run. When you are ready, it can send your enquiry to our team, but only after you have checked the details and said yes.
Key takeaways
- Plan in plain language. Describe your book the way you would to a friend; the assistant turns it into a package suggestion and a printing estimate.
- Real figures, from our own tools. Packages and prices come from the same catalogue as our self-publishing packages page; printing estimates come from our book printing cost calculator.
- Estimates, not final quotes. Printing figures are estimates. Our team confirms the final quote before anything is ordered.
- Nothing is sent without your yes. An enquiry goes to our team only after you review it and agree to be contacted.
- Free, no Harmony account needed, and open to authors anywhere. Prices are shown in $ (USD).
Why plan your book inside ChatGPT?
Many authors already use ChatGPT to brainstorm titles, tidy a synopsis or think through a marketing plan. The hard part usually comes next: what will publishing actually cost, which package fits, and how much will a box of printed copies be? Until now that meant leaving the chat, opening several pages and doing the sums yourself.
The Harmony Publishing Assistant answers those questions where you are already working. It does not guess: it reads our published packages and asks our printing calculator, so the numbers you see match the ones on our website. You can compare options, change the page count or the number of copies, and ask follow-up questions without starting again.
How to start (about one minute)
- Open the app in ChatGPT. Go to the Harmony Publishing Assistant page in ChatGPT and add it.
- Start a new chat. Mention Harmony Publishing in your question, or pick the app from the tools menu, so ChatGPT knows to use it.
- Ask your first question. Use one of the three prompts below, or describe your own book.
Prefer Claude? You can add the same assistant to Claude as a custom connector. The steps are on our AI assistant page.
Three prompts to try
1. "Show me your self-publishing packages"
You get each package with its price, who it suits best, and what it includes: editing, cover design, interior formatting, printed copies, distribution and extras. It is a quick way to see the whole range side by side before you look at the details on the packages page.
2. "Estimate printing 100 copies of a 200-page 6x9 paperback"
The assistant asks our calculator for a printing-only estimate. You can change the trim size, interior (black and white, full colour or mixed), paper, binding and destination, then ask again. Instant estimates cover 1 to 1,000 copies. Larger runs, dust jackets and specifications the calculator does not offer come back as "request a quote", and our team prices those individually. The same figures are on the book printing cost calculator if you want to check them.
3. "Recommend a package for my first novel on a $1,000 budget"
Tell the assistant your book type, page count, format (eBook, print or both), how finished the manuscript is, the services you want and your budget. It suggests the package that fits best from the published catalogue, explains why, and lists the other packages for comparison. If your budget sits between two packages, it says so rather than inventing a custom price.
What the assistant can and can't do
It can
- Show our current self-publishing packages and their prices in $ (USD).
- Recommend the package that matches your manuscript, goals and budget, and explain the basis for the suggestion.
- Estimate printing costs by quantity, page count, trim size, interior, paper and binding.
- Send your publishing enquiry to our team, with your name, email, country, book details and the services you want, after you confirm.
It can't
- Give a final, binding quote. Printing figures are estimates; our team confirms the final quote.
- Take payment, place an order or start a project. Those happen with our team, after you talk to us.
- Read or edit your manuscript. It works from what you tell it about the book.
- Price print runs above 1,000 copies or unusual specifications instantly. Those return "request a quote".
Privacy: your details stay with you until you confirm
Looking at packages, getting a recommendation and estimating printing send nothing to us. The only step that shares your details is the enquiry, and the assistant is built so that it sends one only after you have reviewed the details and agreed to be contacted. If you say no, nothing is sent or stored.
When an enquiry does reach us, we use it only to reply to you about publishing your book. Our privacy policy explains how long we keep it and how to ask us to correct or delete it.
Tips for better answers
- Give the basics up front: book type, approximate page count and trim size if you know it. "A 240-page memoir, 6x9, paperback" gets a sharper answer than "my book".
- Not sure about page count? Estimate it from your word count with our word count to page count tool, then ask for a printing estimate.
- Compare runs: ask for 50, 100 and 250 copies in one go to see how the price per copy changes.
- Say what you already have. If your manuscript is edited or you have a cover, mention it so the recommendation leaves out what you don't need.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Harmony Publishing Assistant free?
Yes. The assistant is free to use. You need ChatGPT or Claude; you don't need a Harmony Publishing account.
Are the prices the same as on the website?
Yes. Package prices come from the same catalogue as our packages page, and printing estimates come from the same calculator. If the live catalogue can't be reached, the assistant says it is using a dated snapshot and asks you to confirm prices on the website.
Can authors outside the United States use it?
Yes. It is open to authors anywhere, and printing estimates ask for your destination country. Prices are shown in $ (USD).
